The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is now in its preparation for the annual business festivity dubbed as the CEBU BUSINESS MONTH (CBM) in June 2013. With the theme, EXCITE CEBU! POWER UP GLOBAL BUSINESS, the CBM 2013 aims to showcase Cebu at its finest and let people across the world experience Cebu's Creative Industries, ICT & BPO, Tourism, and Entrepreneurship towards powering up global business.

The CBM is an institutionalized month-long jubilee of the business community, a series of events to highlight, celebrate and inspire more success in the Cebu Business Community. It is geared toward sustaining business growth and development of Cebu and the neighboring islands.

Launched as Cebu Business Month in 1996, this yearly event continues to magnetize investments by helping create an encouraging business ambiance and supporting trade and industry. It has become Cebu's tradition of sharing industry and expertise among businesses and affiliate organizations through shows, exhibits, trade fairs, sporting events, conferences, fellowships, cultural presentations and tourism prospects sustaining the Cebu business blazing momentum. The CBM is devised to advocate, share and provide a more dynamic and optimistic road to a sustainable business environment in Cebu.

Emerging Industries Highlighted at Cebu Business Month

A forum on emerging industries will be held on June 15, 2012 at Quest Hotel & Conference Center. Representatives from the different property developers will talk about trends & developments, as well as factors contributing to the confidence of investors on the local economy. Invited to speak are Rep.Cynthia Villar of Vista Land & Lifescapes, Inc., Jose Soberano III of Cebu Landmasters, Inc., Manuel Colayco of Taft Property Venture Development Corp., and Jonah Lafuente of ProHomes Development Incorporated.

Environment–friendly technology will be discussed by Architect Joy Onozawa of Environmental Designs Inc., and Architect Christopher Dela Cruz of the Philippine Green Building Council. Francis Dy will talk on Green Lighting Program and its role in sustainable environment. Representatives from the banking industry will talk on financing /housing loans. A sectoral open forum will follow.

According to Cebu Business Month Chairman Mario Panganiban, the forum will serve as a platform to learn new information, share experiences and hear success stories from the emerging industries’ point of view. Participants will also have the opportunity to establish linkages with the key players of the Cebu business community.

Capitol Supports Cebu Business Month 2012: Soar Higher Cebu

The Cebu Business Month 2012 (CBM) Committee met with the Hon. Governor Gwen Garcia on March 7, 2012 to discuss this year’s celebration of the CBM. With Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s thrust in engaging and stimulating a strong Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to advocate a continuing and sustainable economic activities and programs that will benefit Cebu’s constituents, Governor Garcia pledged the same support as to the previous CBM.

The CBM 2012, with its theme SOAR HIGHER CEBU!, aims to propel Cebu businesses to attain the highest achievement in terms of growth, profitability and long-term sustainability in as many industries possible. The month-long celebration is expected to sustain projects and developments in Tourism, ICT-BPO, Entrepreneurship and Emerging Industries. The Governor encouraged CCCI to establish relevant, attainable and viable activities relevant to the current needs of the local business community, particularly to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In support to the Governor’s provincial tourism programs, the Chamber will initiate Serbisyo Eskwela Turismo (SET), an immersion project in partnership with the Province of Cebu and the academe. The SET will complement the countryside program of the Province of Cebu called the Suroy-Suroy Sugbu which accelerated the number of tourists in the countryside. The Governor said that there is a need to come up with a clear master plan and guide to establish a standard of tourism infrastructure and services which includes marketing and branding a community tour package, addressing basic needs and services of tourists and ensuring the sustainability of Cebu’s attractions.

The highlights in the 2012 CBM are the Tourism Congress, Tourism Congress Night, 2012 CBM Expo, Region 7 MSME Conference and the launching of the ASEAN ICT Awards and the national e-Gov Awards during the Cebu ICT & BPO Conference 2012.

The CBM 2012 will continue to consistently promote Cebu as an investment and tourism hub in the Asia-Pacific Region. With the unwavering support of the Province and City of Cebu, the celebration of the 2012 Cebu Business Month will definitely be a great success.

FULL SUPPORT IN CBM 2012. In a courtesy call to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama last February 8, the City Mayor once again expressed his support to the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) as it celebrates Cebu Business Month in June 2012.

Concretizing on this year’s theme “Soar High Cebu”, the 2012 CBM prime movers aim to propel Cebu businesses to attain the highest achievement in terms of growth, profitability and long-term sustainability in as many industries possible. CCCI’s 17th Grand Chamber Awards (GCA) is now officially open for nominations. This prestigious event recognizes and highlights entrepreneurs who are key players in making businesses flourish in Cebu. GCA aims to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs to emulate the character and excellence the awardees exemplify with their entrepreneurial achievements.

To qualify to be the 17th Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the nominee must be the owner/manager of the private or public company under which he/she is being nominated. He must be primarily responsible for the recent performance of the company/business. Furthermore, the 17th Entrepreneur of the Year must meet the following additional criteria:

Demonstrates leadership and perseverance in the face of adversity
Fosters teamwork and builds loyalty among personnel
Demonstrates innovativeness in their product and/or service
Lives out integrity in the area of business competition
Practices corporate social responsibility
Demonstrates exceptional track record based on the company/business present financial performance
Company/business must have been in operation for the number of years specified in each category.

Other awards to be given are the following:

Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year (company is less than three years in operation)
Young Entrepreneur of the Year (ages 35 and under)
Socially Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year
Environmentally Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year
Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year (company asset size range from Php3M to Php15M)
Countryside Entrepreneur of the Year

Self-nominations are encouraged. Special citations will also be given to companies and organizations in specific industry categories.

The Board of Judges for the Grand Chamber Awards will be comprised of CCCI’s Council of Advisers composed of five of the Chamber’s Past Presidents, and Directors from the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Tourism.

Showcase, Match, Network, Learn & Grow as Cebu Business Month (CBM) 2011 holds an EntrePinoys Expo on June 23-26, 2011 at SM City Cebu Trade Hall.

Showcase, Match and Grow. The EntrePinoys Expo will be an interactive display of products, services and latest technologies from Tourism, Information Communications Technology and Business Process Outsourcing and other industries.

The exhibit will provide marketing opportunities for local products and services from the municipalities as well as highlight green technologies and innovations related to sustainable energy and business from waste. The emerging industries (banking and finance, real estate, transportation and logistics, exports and food) will showcase what they can offer. Business opportunities through franchising will also be featured.

Network, Learn and Grow. The Entrepinoys expo is also a venue for learning, interaction and networking. Daily seminars are organized to tackle relevant issues as well as best practices to create new opportunities. The Go Negosyo, Multiplying the Business via Franchising, Building an Entrepreneurial Organization and Financial Literacy for Entrepreneurs sessions aim to inspire and educate entrepreneurs on how to advance their companies to another level of operational efficiency.

CBM 2011 Launching and Presscon: A resounding success!

The number of attendees undeniably showed the success of the Cebu Business Month 2011 Launching and Press Conference held last May 4. Marco Polo Plaza Cebu’s Manila Room accommodated around 200 people for the event.

Attended by various personalities from the public and private sectors, Cebu Business Month 2011 is now ready to take another leap in making and enabling Cebu businesses to soar beyond their boundaries.

Present in the event were Cebu City Hon. Mayor Michael L. Rama and acting Vice-Governor Agnes Magpale on behalf of the Provincial Government. Both pledged to support this year’s celebration.

The media also demonstrated their usual support through their presence and coverages.
